PRAYER GUIDE Impacting the World Through Prayer! Why Should I Pray? Intercessory prayer is a wonderful and supernatural privilege for believers. It is an opportunity to go before the throne of Almighty God with prayers on behalf of others! The role of mediator in prayer was prevalent in the Old Testament as seen in the lives of Abraham, Moses, David, Samuel, Hezekiah, Elijah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. A wonderful model of intercessory prayer is found in Daniel 9:3-19 where Daniel prays for his people and asks God to be merciful. Like Daniel, believers are to go to God on behalf of others. True intercessory prayer does not seek one’s own will but God’s will and desires to see it fulfilled. What we ask for others should be for God’s glory alone. Christ is pictured in the New Testament as the ultimate intercessor. And because of this, all Christian prayer becomes intercession since it is offered to God through and by Jesus Christ. The Bible is clear that all Christians are called to be intercessors. In fact, not to intercede for others is sin. ("As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you” 1 Samuel 12:23). Believers are commanded to pray for each other, and God works when we pray. So use this booklet to help your labors in intercession for the global family of The Shepherd's Church. 2How Should I Pray? Pray for Open Doors Colossians 4:3—Pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ. Pray for Boldness to Share the Gospel Ephesians 6:19—And also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel. Pray for New Disciples in Jesus Christ Romans 10:1—My heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Pray for Love/Unity for Team Workers John 13:34-35—A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. Pray for Governing Authorities in Each Country 1 Timothy 2:1-2—I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. Pray for More Laborers Matthew 9:38; John 4:35b—Pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest ... Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are ripe for harvest. Pray for Spiritual Strength from the Word Ephesians 3:16—That he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being. 3DO YOU KNOW WHERE OUR GLOBAL STAFF & PARTNERS ARE IN THE WORLD? 4GLOBAL STAFF GLOBAL PARTNER 5GLOBAL STAFF Sent from The Shepherd's Church Tony & Bridget Arnold USA After serving 36 years with Cru, Tony and Bridget joined Levasis Ministries in 2010.
